An Achan In The Camp
Joshua 7:10-32 (New International Version)
10The LORD said to Joshua, "Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction. 13 "Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: That which is devoted is among you, O Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it. Joshua 7:12-13

Sometimes when things are not going right no matter how much we pray, obey and worship our Lord, we cannot understand why things are going the way they are, we tend to wonder why. We know in our hearts that we love the Lord and obey his commands to the best of our ability; but everything is going wrong and we don't know why or understand why everything came crushing down on us.
We are praying daily, but our prayers are seemingly not being heard or answered. Remember the defeat at Ai? Remember what the Lord God told Joshua-to take only the first spoils which belongs to him and take nothing else!
However, Achan had his own plans to take gold and silver for himself. His own private plans which no one else knew about-so he thought. He had forgotten that God sees all and knows all. Do you know what the name Achan means? It means "TROUBLE" and that's just what Achan was to the Israelites.
As Christians, believers in God sometimes we have problems at home, at church, on our jobs and with our extended families and friends. Things are not going right because we have a Achan among us, churches don't grow, families don't get along but fight among each others.
Know that it only takes one individual to bring a nation to ruin. One individual can doom his/her own family by their selfish actions and disobedience. No one person sins alone, many are impacted by this action. God promises his people the good of the land, yet we struggle to survive, maybe we have an Achan in our midst! If we obey there is no situation that God cannot bring us through.
